FAQ
Questions.
What the Coterie is, what the C means, and how a jacket gets made. If the answer you are looking for is not here, ask directly.
How do I join the Coterie?
There is no application and there is no membership fee. You become part of the Coterie when Nick decides you are. There are currently four members.
What is the C?
The C is where the whole project started and the strongest element on the jacket itself — the equivalent of a club insignia. Every Coterie jacket has a C somewhere. It appears in many forms: chenille, embroidery, canvas appliqué, and reflective or distressed variations.
What is the ampersand?
The ampersand is the mark — the logo the whole project signs itself with. The C is where it started. Both appear throughout the work, and both mean the same thing: this was made by hand, for someone.
What is the difference between Originals, Editions and Customs?
Originals are the jackets made for friends. They are not for sale. Editions are the occasional one-of-one jackets released to the public as drops. Customs are commissions, where you choose the direction and Nick finds the coat and transforms it into a piece that exists once.
What jackets do you start from?
Thrifted and vintage coats: chore coats, stadium jackets, varsity jackets and similar pieces, found hunting thrift stores and Goodwill racks for the right base jacket. Every piece is washed, prepared, cut, sewn and embroidered by hand.
How much does a custom cost?
Customs run roughly $300 to $600+ depending on the underlying coat and the amount of work. The value is not the thrifted jacket — it is the finding of the coat, the concept, the design, the customization, the labor, the one-of-one nature and the story.
How much is an Edition?
Roughly $175 to $250, depending on the underlying coat and the amount of work. Each Edition is one of one, released in limited, occasional drops.
Why can’t I see every jacket?
Some jackets are shown, and some are never shown until they are worn. Coterie jackets are made privately for specific people, which creates anticipation without manufactured scarcity. The Registry records what can be recorded; the rest stays with its recipient.
How do I hear about new drops?
Join The Coterie List on the contact page for new releases, one-of-one drops, archive updates, custom openings and Coterie stories — or follow @cadetcoterie on Instagram.
Can I buy a jacket on this site?
No. There is no checkout here. Editions are sold through an external marketplace, and the site drives attention to the drop. See Coterie Editions for what is currently available.
